The deadline for the next quarterly report to come into force, is August 7th and 790,000 taxpayers are expected in the next cohort. Just 153,000 of these are already registered (just under 20%).

Sabby Gill, the CEO of Dext accounting SaaS said “This is a scaling challenge for firms…. MTD isn’t really a tax change, it’s an operating model shift.”

He explained that instead of being reactive to real-time data flows, their offering prioritised people-led processes, with system-led, scalable methods.

He advised for registrants to see the countdown as steps towards a setup, rather than a compliance deadline. Early registrants have an additional window to test, implement and embed the right process and technology.

He stressed the importance of input data processing, consistency of decisions, and scalability of operations. With Dext, its offering AI Assist is built-in, it’s not add on and has been an integrated part of the platform for 14 years.

“You can’t retrofit intelligence into a system that was never designed to learn.” Dext Solo, he explains, is designed for complex client requirements like multiple business streams.

Uptake of the SaaS has proven the widespread relevance of the reporting tools. Just in January, they processed 34.1mn receipts and purchase orders. Manually this would have taken over 2mn hours, they calculated. In actual fact it took 260,000 hours, representing a 90% reduction in labour cost.

The team also points to the fact there is a 99.5% accuracy rate of content – context is important to ground data in real transactions and real clients, and automated decision-making is overseen by highly trained staff who take overall responsibility for filings.

Ryan Alderson at DJH stressed how vital is replicability and control. Using a Dext managed account, they reportedly onboarded 2,000 clients just this month, an increase on the prior month’s new business onboarding which was 1,800.

Since overhauling their legacy infrastructure, their UK presence has expanded from 10 offices to 18, thanks to the scalability of “adaptable… processes which are easy to adopt.” In terms of demographics, 300 are rental clients, 1,400 are self-employed only, with the remainder of 300 representing publicly listed companies.

Alderson stresses that even “If a client is on a software account already, this does not necessarily make them MTD-ready.

MTD is about making habits digital… it’s not a compliance element, it’s habits and process.”
